Skills for Change Program

Skills for Change Program (S4C)

A partnership program with Hope for Girls and Women Foundation, Young Minds Organization, and Action for Sustainable Environment and Humanitarian Development (ASEHD).

Program Goal

To empower 1000 young people in rural and semi-urban areas of Blantyre to be self-reliant through Vocational, technical and entrepreneurship skills training by December 2027.

Objectives
  • To equip young individuals with practical skills needed to excel in their career profession
  • To promote entrepreneurship skills training sessions
  • To promote partnership with business and service providers
  • Strengthening the capacities of implementing partners

Currently we have started with the first cohort of 50 youth undergoing Plumbing and entrepreneurship training, ending in June 2025.

Community Based Rehabilitation

Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR - Ongoing)

CHICOSUDO with support from NASF is implementing a nine months project that seeks to address the low access to rehabilitation services among children with disabilities in Lunzu area.

Program Goal

To improve lives of children with disabilities and their caregivers in Lunzu area, Senior Chief Kapeni, Blantyre as they access rehabilitation services, are included and participate at home and community as their rights.

Key Activities
  • Construction of rehabilitation Centre
  • Procurement of assorted assistive devices
  • Training of volunteers to support in provision of rehabilitation services

The program targets 120 children with disabilities, caregivers and volunteers, working with partners like Feed The Children Malawi, MACOHA and Ministry of Health.

Mzimai Odzidalira Project

Mzimai Odzidalira (Self-Reliant Woman)

A one-year initiative to strengthen and expand the impact of VSL groups in Mulanje District. By addressing systemic barriers and leveraging proven models of financial inclusion, the project enhances women's economic and social empowerment.

Key Components
  • Expanding Access to Loans: Increase the revolving loan fund across 11 groups
  • Strengthening VSL Group Management: Adopt the SILC model to formalize group structures
  • Entrepreneurship Training: 8-day practical training using the Street Business School Curriculum for 200 women
  • Diversified Income Ventures: Support for small-scale baking, irrigation projects, and poultry farming
Anticipated Impact

This project will economically empower 200 women, enhancing household incomes, building resilience, and promoting gender equity. It aligns with SDGs 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), 10 (Reduced Inequalities), and 13 (Climate Action).

Mtsikana Ali ndi Ufulu Project

Mtsikana Ali ndi Ufulu(The Right To Be A Girl - Completed)

A one-year project supported by Mundo Cooperante implemented from August 2023 to July 2024, working with Mwayiwathu and Mwalaoboola CBOs, and Samson, Sukayakwe and Mambala Primary Schools.

Project Goal

To prevent early, forced and child marriages among 500 girls below 16 years old from 13 villages in T/A Nkanda, Mulanje District by empowering them through girls safe spaces, engaging men as protectors and facilitating community dialogues.

Key Results

Women Empowerment Project

Women Empowerment Through Vocational Skills Training(Completed )

Implemented from June 2022 to May 2023 with support from Korea Hope Foundation (KHF), empowering 100 marginalized women aged 15-25 in T/A Nkanda, Mulanje.

Key Results
  • 80% of learners gained skills in tailoring and machine maintenance
  • 90% demonstrated knowledge in business management
  • 97% joined village savings and loans groups
  • 75% improved existing businesses or planned to start new ones
Lessons Learned

Community-driven approaches in vocational skills building can provide breakthroughs to self-reliance. Business management training enables even unemployed marginalized women to identify opportunities and start businesses.

End Child Marriage Project

End Child Marriages Now (Completed )

A six-month campaign launched in partnership with Lush Charity Pot called "The Voice of Her - The Campaign for Ending Child Marriage" from July to December 2019 in GVH Ntonya, T/A Nkanda, Mulanje.

Project Goal

Preventing 500 early and forced marriages by advocating for policies and law enforcement against girl child marriage, directly protecting, helping and empowering girls against forced marriage.

Key Results
  • Increased school enrollment and attendance
  • 25 dropout students (5 girls) returned to school
  • 50% change in attitude toward child marriage
  • Reduction in harmful cultural practices
  • Re-establishment of paralegal services
